While attending the announcement of Superintendent David S. Doty of the new East Jordan School District, a thought came to my mind. Since our legislators — local and national — have failed to solve the problem of undocumented aliens, school districts must lead out in providing solutions for the problem. Educators come in contact with these wonderful people.

My great-grandfather, George Q. Cannon, came to this country without the slightest documentation and became a great citizen. Now restrictions are so severe that industrious workers have to sneak into the country. Our country needs new blood and vitality. Conditions in many other parts of the world are so bad that food cannot be placed on the table. "Give me your tired, your poor" must be a clarion call for educators to step up and solve the illegal alien citizenship problem.
