PROVO — A man who is accused of grabbing a young girl and sexually assaulting her was found by police Tuesday after months apparently spent in hiding.

The 26-year-old man had been staying at a motel in Provo in May when he took a 5-year-old girl into his hotel room and began tickling her and ended up touching her genital area, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in 4th District Court.

Minutes later, the girl's brother knocked on the door asking for her and the man locked the door, denying that she was there, according to the affidavit.

As the brother ran to get his mother in another hotel room, the man let the girl out.

When police tried to find the man, he had fled and gone into hiding. The man, who police say is transient, was located Tuesday at the Food and Care Coalition, according to the affidavit.

During police questioning, he allegedly admitted that he did lock the door and pull the curtains closed so no one could see in, according to the affidavit.

The man admitted to tickling the girl and telling the brother she wasn't there but denied touching her genital area.

He was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of sexual abuse of a child on $50,000 cash-only bond.
