MIDVALE — Two people were seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash on State Street Tuesday evening.

About 6:30 p.m., a truck jumped the curb near 7100 South, striking a young couple as they walked on the sidewalk, said Midvale Police Sgt. Gregg Olsen.

A woman in her early 20s was critically injured and was undergoing surgery at Intermountain Medical Center late Tuesday, Olsen said. A man, also in his 20s, was in serious condition.

Police found a vehicle abandoned in a residential neighborhood just minutes after the accident. Pay stubs inside the truck led police to a Sandy home, near 8300 South and State Street, where a man, in his 30s, was later arrested.
