A man has been charged with attempted murder after police say he stabbed his sister's boyfriend in the stomach last weekend.

Chad Malcolm Merrell, 22, was intoxicated Saturday night and kept repeating that he wanted "human blood," according to charges filed Tuesday in 3rd District Court.

When his sister's boyfriend tried to get Merrell to sleep, he stabbed the man in the stomach with a knife, according to the charges.

Police said when they arrived, the victim was lying on the floor of the home, near 1000 East and 1700 South in Salt Lake. Officers heard Merrell say, "I have to find the murder weapon," court documents state.

Merrell faces one count of attempted murder, a second-degree felony. He also has been charged four counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child because several children witnessed the stabbing, according to the charges.
