A man wanted for attempted homicide in New York was caught in Salt Lake City, but not before he first tried to disarm at least three officers.
About 7:30 p.m. Sunday, officers received a tip that Hannasan McGhie, 30, was in the area of 1700 South and 300 West. McGhie has a warrant issued by the NYPD for attempted murder, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.
As an officer grabbed the man's arm to attempt to put him in handcuffs, McGhie broke free and ran, said Salt Lake police detective Jeff Bedard. The fleeing man wasn't watching where he was going, however, and tripped over a street curb and fell to the ground about 10 feet later.
Officers again tried to handcuff the man while he was on the ground, but three times he tried to grab the guns of two officers, Bedard said. Each time, officers had to grab the man's hand and get it away from the guns he was trying to grab.
McGhie was finally handcuffed and taken into custody after being Tasered. In addition to his warrant, he was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of three counts of trying to disarm a peace officer, three counts of assault on a police officer and interfering with an arrest.
