WOMEN'S SOCCER: For the second year in a row, Sacramento State has been selected as the team to beat by Big Sky Conference soccer coaches, while Weber State tied for second place in the preseason poll. Weber State is primed to make a run at the title with senior Hayley McCoy leading the charge. McCoy could become just the second player in conference history to collect four first team All-Big Sky Conference selections.

Southern Utah

GOLF : Two golfers who will be competing for Southern Utah University next year have qualified for national tournaments, which will be contested over the next week. Matt McArthur has qualified for the U.S. Amateur men's tournament, while Mikayla Williamson will compete in the Junior PGA Championship women's tournament.

McArthur (St. George/Pine View HS), who will be a senior at SUU next season, qualified for the U.S. Amateur by virtue of his second-place finish at the Utah Qualifying tournament last month at Alpine Country Club. Williamson, who will enter SUU as a freshman this fall, claimed her spot in the Junior PGA after finishing second in the Utah Qualifier at Soldier Hollow and advancing as an alternate.

McArthur begins play Monday at Pinehurst Golf Club in Pinehurst, N.C. The tournament calls for two days of medal play, with the low 64 players advancing to single-elimination match play, which begins Wednesday. The championship round will be Aug. 24.

Williamson began competition Wednesday at TPC River's Bend in Maineville, Ohio. Seventy-eight players are competing for two spots on the women's Junior Ryder Cup team, with a cut to the low 30 competitors after the first 54 holes of stroke play.



The University of Utah women's basketball team has released its final 2008-09 schedule with the unveiling of the Mountain West Conference portion of the season. The conference also released the broadcast schedule, which places the Utes on television nine times throughout the season.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: In a vote by Mountain West Conference coaches, the Utah women's soccer tied for third place with San Diego State in the 2008 MWC preseason coaches' poll.

The Utes and the Aztecs each collected 36 points in the poll, finishing just behind 2007 league champion UNLV (39 points). The 2008 preseason favorite is BYU, who collected 49 points in the poll. Utah finished ahead of TCU, who came in fifth with 24 points. New Mexico was ranked sixth (17 points), while Wyoming (16) and Air Force (7) rounded out the top eight. Utah returns three of its top four scoring threats from a year ago, including senior captain Katy Reineke (9 goals, 7 assists, 25 points), junior Kelly Isleib (1 goal, 13 assists, 15 points) and sophomore Lauren Hair (4 goals, 7 assists, 15 points).

Dixie State

t--> GOLF: Dixie State College Athletics and The Dixie Athletic Club is hosting the second-annual DSC Hall of Fame/Dixie Athletic Club Cup Golf Tournament on Saturday, August 30, 2008, at the Sunbrook Golf Course. Proceeds from the tournament will go to benefit DSC student-athletes and athletic scholarships.

The tournament will be played in a four-person scramble format with a shotgun start at 8 a.m., with check-in beginning at 7 a.m. Cost is $125 per player/$500 per team, which includes green fees, cart, and lunch.
