Class 5A

REGION 1: Clearfield will be strong defensively with players such as Justin Parkinson, Will Bullard, Chase Neville, Mark Cooper and Jeremy Jones leading the way. Junior quarterback Kolton Young is back, and newcomer Zack Vigil might surprise some people ... Syracuse seeks to earn some respect on the field, and earn back the trust of its community. The team will be led by Jake Anderson, Braden Hamblin and K.J. Medina ... Fremont returns just two starters in Ryan Shaw and Chad Richins and may be in a rebuilding season ... Weber has a winning attitude this season. The team's top player is Kai Mendenhall.

REGION 2: Taylorsville is low in numbers and depth this season, but two players to watch are Blake Sio and Andrew Stephens.

REGION 4: Spanish Fork tight end Richard Wilson is among the state's most recruited players. He already has nine Division I offers. Quarterback Breck Lewis is back, along with Tyler Randolph and receiver Jordan Mattinson ... Lehi will be improved with big and talented linemen Dylan Stadel, Glenn Baker and J.J. Galandio leading the way.

Class 4A

REGION 5: Mountain Crest is favored to win the region because of the team's well-known toughness, and returning players such as Ethen Lofthouse, Alex Kuresa, Derek Pond, Colton Reeder, Matt Stewart, Hayden Snow and Mitch Jessop ... Sky View, which is 11-1 in league games the past two years, will also contend for the league title. J.D. Falslev is one of the state's most exciting players, while linebacker Riley Spackman and quarterback Kyler Carlson are also back ... No one wanted to play Bonneville at the end of last season. Not many people will want to play them this year with players such as Tyson Jenkins, Austen Richards, Devin Mickles, Justin Stofferahn, Tyler Anderson and quarterbacks Todd Aubrey and Manaia Filiaga returning ... Pablo Mendoza is Box Elder's new quarterback and he could have a big season. Carson Smith, Skylar Limb, Josh Wanner, Blayde McClellan, Raul Puga and Jeremy Galvin will also contribute for the Bees ... Roy returns just three starters in Cameron Lamb, Trevor Nicotera and Skyler Buck.

REGION 7: Second-year coach Teko Johnson has Mountain View moving in the right direction. He has the league's best rushing combo in the league in T.J. Mounga and Anthony Heimuli ... New Springville coach Scott Mitchell has talented players to work with on offense in Isaac Allred, Colton Ramon, Luke Frampton and Mark DeWyze ... Ray Groth is back running a program again, this time with Tooele. Chris Iorg will run his option attack, while linemen Brian Hobson, Josh Slater, Colt Wright, Jordan Biorge and Mason Halligan will contribute for the Buffaloes ... Payson has to replace many players, and will rely on guys such as Colton Cannon, Peyton Holt, Jace Harmon, Carter Worthen, Seth Gabbitas and Spensor Smith ... Provo will run the spread offense with returning players Matt Griner, Kyler Hamilton and Anthony Miles being counted on to learn a new system.

REGION 9: Snow Canyon standout Adam Timo is moving from running back to quarterback to utilize his talents in a different way. He'll have some other weapons to work with in Andrew Johnston and Chase Frei ... Justin Ence is Pine View's new quarterback, but he lost one of the state's top weapons when receiver Robert Evans tore his ACL. His top target with now be Taylor Orr ... Dixie will run the spread offense under new coach Blaine Monkres ,and Mike Sharp, Dalton Smith, Jake Mills, Ian Gatchell and Chunner Nyberg will have fun in the system.

Class 3A

REGION 8: Juan Diego is probably fielding its best team since moving up to 3A. Lineman James Markosian leads the team, while quarterback Brian May and receiver Keegan Andersen should be a productive combo ... Delta has a shot at region and state titles with players such as Wes Murdock and Dayton DeLoach leading the way ... Quarterback Gatlan Huntington will run the team's wing-T offense ... Reggie Clawson is the best athlete on a rebuilding North Sanpete team ... Monte Morgan will coach Salem Hills in its inaugural season ... Lance Deeter and Tysen Stevens lead a Carbon team that went through a late coaching change.

REGION 9: Hurricane returns 10 offensive starters, including a three-year starter in Ryan Butler ... Pat Gardner and Trent Grover will form an exciting rushing combo at Cedar City ... Gentry Julian is Canyon View's quarterback despite having no experience playing the position... Desert Hills has just 10 seniors on its team and will probably take some first-year lumps.

REGION 10: Park City will be led by senior captain Tony Epperson and junior tailback Dylan Chynoweth ... Jake Hardcastle, Sean Sullivan, Jake Olsen and Colton Robinson lead a strong offensive line for Wasatch ... Uintah linebackers Chris Wilson, Dax Nyberg and Ryler Thacker will lead the team's defense ... Senior Kaden Richard is undoubtedly Union's leader this season.

REGION 11: Logan appears ready to defend its 3A title with quarterback Jeff Manning, miracle-making linebacker Jordan Ballam and defensive end Jared Theurer back from last season ... Quarterback Matt Largent and running back Jake Kinsey will lead a strong Morgan offense ... Bear River will be young, but returns an experienced quarterback in James Taylor ... Alex Childs will lead an experienced Grantsville team ... Quarterback Max Walling and running back Shay Kaleikini give Ben Lomond hope for a good season ... New Ogden coach Eric Eyre has hopes for a successful season, and it could happen with returning players Max Rodriguez and Freddie Delgado.

Class 2A

2A NORTH: Juab is counting on Cody Keisel to lead the team, while Kyler Jones could have a big year at running back ... Quarterback Griffin Aste leads an experienced and talented Manti team ... First-team all-state players Deven Holmes and Colby Richins, second-teamer Caden Richins and honorable mention pick Stevin Sommerville return for reigning champion North Summit ... Kendall Prescott will be counted on to lead an inexperienced South Summit team ... Gunnison running back Heston Neal is one of 2A's top players ... ALA has a good senior class and will be led by Peter Reid.

2A SOUTH: Millard, coming off of a two straight state-title game losses, will be led by running back Clancy Mortensen and a huge offensive line ... Kohler Black rushed for more than 1,000 yards for San Juan last season ... Richfield has a solid group of skill-position players in Travis Tuttle, Zach Cropper and JD Michaelsen ... Grand will have a big offensive line with Dan Simpson, Tony Cassart, Shane Yuhas and Ryan Burraston leading the way ... South Sevier linebackers Scott Mathie and Zach Dustin will lead a strong defense ... Beaver went winless last season, but returns eight starters on offense and eight on defense.

Class 1A

1A NORTH: Rich might be the favorite to win the 1A title after coming up short last season. Watch for Bradley Holmes, Jade Cornia and Caden Andersen to have big seasons ... Jacob Evans will anchor the lines for Duchesne, while Selby Reinhardt and Derek Herrera are players to watch on offense ... Jesse Barton and Daniel Torres lead an experienced Monticello team ... Bryson Foy is a three-year starter at quarterback for Altamont ... Hunter Thompson, Rodney Hamilton and Kyle Hoover lead what should be an exciting Layton Christian team.

1A SOUTH: Thomas Chamberlain and Tony Visser lead what could be a dominant offensive line for Kanab ... Tanner Larsen and Wyatt Mason are skill players to keep an eye on from North Sevier ... Sophomore Slade Moyle will start at quarterback for Enterprise ... Parowan is headed in the right direction, and quarterback Nick Wood should have a productive season ... Milford has 32 players on its team, up from 14 at the end of last season.
