Eastbound lanes of I-80 in Parleys Canyon will be closed for most of the weekend.

The lanes will close at 7 p.m. today and will remain closed until 7 p.m. Sunday, as crews replace bridges at Lambs Canyon and East Canyon. Westbound lanes will remain open, but eastbound travel will not be allowed.

Detours include U.S. 189 through Provo Canyon and I-84 in Morgan Valley.

Chamber director for Cedar City resigns

Donna Brown, executive director of the Cedar City Area Chamber of Commerce, has resigned.

Brown served as director for 3 1/2 years. She was the ninth director in 10 years prior to her hiring, said the chamber's president, Steve Mickey, who announced her resignation Friday.

Brown said she plans to focus on her children and launch a writing business from her home that will provide Web content for local businesses.

Family puppet show, dinner set in Layton

Layton will host a Family Recreation Kick-Off Barbecue and Puppet Show at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Layton Commons Park Phase II Bowery (south of Layton City Center).

Free tickets to the event are available to city residents from the Layton City Recreation Office.

The event will kick off another season of family recreation events in the city. Participants can enjoy a family dinner in the park while listening to the live music of Layton's own drumline and community band. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., the city will present its grand opening puppet show, "Adventures in Verde Land," a puppet play about a magical land inside Commons Park, at the Ed Kenley Centennial Amphitheater.

Agency director tours state library

Institute of Museum and Library Services director Anne-Imelda Radice, along with former Utah State Librarian Amy Owen, toured the Utah State Library recently to get a feel for the growing needs of the state's library community.

During her consultation visit, Radice agreed to look into the limitations on spending Library Science and Technology funds for library continuing education and work on broadening the topics that may be taught, including trustee training. She left with a glimpse of Utah services offered through the state library and a great deal of documentation that can benefit the educational development of Utah residents.

The institute is an independent U.S. government agency and is the primary source of federal support for the nation's 122,000 libraries and 17,500 museums.

Host families sought for Brazilian teens

Academic Year in America is looking for families to play host to Brazilian high school students who will learn about American culture while living with volunteer host families and studying at high schools across the nation.

Students are ages 15 to 18. They stay with their host for five or 10 months and attend the local high school.

Fund created for kin of pioneer re-enactor

An account has been created for the family of Hannah Wagstaff, the 14-year-old girl killed Tuesday morning during a pioneer trek re-enactment in Fairview, Sanpete County.
