In his column, Walter Williams cited (Aug.13) Thomas Sowell's assertion that money spent is not the determining factor in giving students an education.

I find it somewhat ironic that he waited until the end of his article to state that the main reason the schools he cited were so successful was that "the teacher was the law." If that were the case in Utah's schools today, classroom size and teacher wages wouldn't be as big an issue in attracting and keeping teachers. That many school districts are still adequately staffed says money is indeed a factor.
