Like many, I was surprised at the Russian incursion into Georgia. I looked it up and found that Georgia has around 6 million people, has oil and natural gas, and is less than half the size of Iowa. It is ruled by a dictator.

John McCain now says he wants Georgia to be NATO's next new member. That means that we would have to consider Georgia our ally, and we would defend it if attacked, the same as Canada, England or Chicago.

This seems very one-sided. I would be reluctant to have my sons sent to defend Georgia, which has a poor history of protecting human rights. We've propped up way too many grasping thugs over the years to repeat that mistake.
