I am a casualty of No Child Left Behind. I am a licensed teacher in theater — not math or science — who cannot find a job. I didn't ask for this. I willingly chose a profession where I thought there was a need, one that can be very thankless at times.

Schools today are focusing in on math and science and excluding the arts. They have become more concerned with passing tests and less concerned with people. Policies like this are what is wrong with this country. By introducing policies such as No Child Left Behind, you give the impression to students that 1+1=2 is more important than Shakespeare.

My goal of being a teacher hasn't been realized because of legislation that doesn't improve education in this country, it just directs it into a rigid construct that sends the wrong message to everybody.
