SANDY — A possible abduction attempt here Sunday has police asking the public to be on the lookout.

About 4:30 p.m., a 5-year-old girl was riding her bike in her mobile home park, near 11300 South and 245 East, when a man driving a car approached her, said Sandy Police Sgt. Victor Quezada.

The man told the girl to get in, Quezada said. The girl did not know the man and kept riding. She spotted a police officer at the end of the street and rode toward him, Quezada said. The girl stopped in front of the officer without saying a word and the man drove off, he said.

The girl then went home, but when she told her father what had happened, he went back outside to where the officer was and told him the story, Quezada said.

"The officer actually saw the car, but he didn't know there were any problems at that time," he said.

The only description of the driver Tuesday was a white man in his 50s with gray hair. He was last seen driving a black '80s Oldsmobile with thin gold pinstriping along the doors and wheel wells.
