At Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Ferocious Fires, entered to run only if the race was moved from the turf course to the main track, took the lead with a furlong to go and won the $84,050 Troy Stakes run in mud Monday. Cornelio Velasquez rode the 5-year-old, Anthony Dutrow-trained Ferocious Fires, who won the John Morrissey Stakes here July 31 and is the first two-time winner at the meeting. He finished 1 3/4 lengths in front of Rallying Cry and ran 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:04.32.
