The Utah Department of Corrections locked down the prison's Oquirrh facility after a stabbing Friday morning left one inmate injured. The unit houses medium- to high-risk inmates.
The victim was treated at University Hospital and returned to the prison with nonlife-threatening injuries to his throat and face, spokeswoman Angie Welling said. The 883 inmates at Oquirrh will remain confined to their cells without recreational and visitor privileges until Monday, when Welling said prison officials expect to complete their investigation.
It appears that a single assailant and the victim were the only inmates involved in the incident, she said.
