Children take patience and commitment. It takes love and sacrifice to do what is in the best interest of the child. It becomes easier to subject some children to absolute control or abuse rather than to suffer possible embarrassment from having an odd or socially unacceptable child.

We have an estimated 3,000 homeless youths in this state. Roughly 900 to 1,200 are self-identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. Many are forced to escape from a home plagued with abuse and hate. At some point parents must be held accountable for throwing their children's lives into chaos. This state must address the problem of not allowing adequate shelter for our homeless youths. We have an estimated 1 million homeless youths in this nation. Our country loses an average of 4,600 youths to suicide each year and treats another 110,000 for self-inflicted injuries.

Is this how we teach love?
