Recently I read the letter titled "Nature's beauty eludes teen" (Readers' Forum, Aug. 2) written by Tom Martin (no relation).

The solution to the problem of kids — and adults for that matter — being oblivious to everything around them because of video games, television and movies is to get rid of such things. This is such a radical idea that I am sure many readers will consider me insane. My parents just decided to do this. Our television has been completely turned off. There is no cable or local television.

If you want your kids to start becoming active, get rid of the stuff that doesn't get them anywhere.
