PROVO An edited-movie store owner accused of having sex with underage girls recently took a plea deal.
Daniel Dean Thompson, 31, who owned Flix Club in Orem, pleaded no contest July 18 in 4th District Court to two class A misdemeanors of sexual battery. With that plea, prosecutors dismissed a charge of patronizing a prostitute.
Thompson and Isaac Lifferth were arrested on Jan. 24 after Orem police said the two men had paid two 14-year-old girls for sexual favors.
Lifferth met the two girls first and arranged the meetings, one of which took place in the Orem movie store at 908 S. State.
The store has since closed due to copyright issues with edited movies.
Lifferth was sentenced in June after pleading guilty to felonies of sexual activity with a minor and patronizing a prostitute. He was given 210 days in jail and 60 days with the jail's ankle monitoring GPS system.
Thompson's plea deal had been discussed for several months, said Thompson's attorney, Mike Petro. But there is no agreement as to sentencing, which will take place on Aug. 29 in American Fork.
Petro said Thompson never knew money was exchanged for the acts and said his client was told the girls were 18 years old.
Class A misdemeanors carry a maximum potential of one year in jail.
