WEST VALLEY CITY — A 33-year-old man was stabbed in the chest while watching a soccer game in Hillsdale Park on Saturday.

The man was critically hurt and was flown by medical helicopter from the scene of the attack, near 3250 S. 3200 West, to the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

He underwent surgery Saturday evening and was expected to survive, said West Valley Police Sgt. Mike Christenson.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested and is being detained in a juvenile holding facility. Police are screening charges of attempted homicide and obstruction of justice, Christenson said.

Officers are as yet unsure what kind of knife was used in the stabbing and could not comment on the proposed obstruction charges. They were also unsure Saturday of the relationship between the man and the teen.
