TOOELE — A search has begun for a man believed to be missing in the West Desert area.

Tooele County sheriff's deputies said Jay Adamson's family contacted them late Thursday night after finding the Draper man's vehicle in the desert. When he didn't show up for work, family members became concerned and started their own search, authorities said.

"We'll search the area where the car is to see what we can find," Tooele County Sheriff Frank Park said Friday.

Adamson's family said the 41-year-old man went hiking alone Wednesday morning in the western desert. He has diabetes.

Search crews were looking for the man late into the night Friday, with people on the ground and a chopper in the air scanning with night vision. The group was to meet early Saturday to continue the search.
