GYMNASTICS: Utah State has hired former student assistant Jeff Richards to coach the Aggies' women's gymnastics team. Richards, who spent the last three years as an assistant at Iowa, returns to his hometown of Logan. He graduated from Logan High School in 1988 and was a student assistant at Utah State to coach Ray Corn, who retired after 31 years and was the only coach in Aggie gymnastics history.
WOMEN'S SOCCER: Fans will be able to catch six of the BYU women's soccer team home games on television this year. The games will be broadcast on BYUTV, beginning with the home-opener against Georgia, on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m.. Other games include a Sept. 4 matchup at 4 p.m. with Arizona and games against Idaho State and Michigan State on Sept. 13 and Sept. 19, respectively. Also on the schedule are games against Air Force on Oct. 25 and Weber State on Oct. 28. Those four games all start at 7 p.m.
FOOTBALL: Utah football single-game tickets for contests with UNLV, TCU, Oregon State and Colorado State will go on sale on Monday at the Utah box office in Rice-Eccles Stadium. Tickets, which start at $25, may also be purchased online at UtahUtes.com and by phone (801-581-UTIX). Season ticket sales, which include the BYU game, have surpassed 27,500.
SOFTBALL: Weber State University Director of Athletics Jerry Graybeal has announced that Tina Johnson has been named the head coach of the newly added women's softball program. Johnson comes to Weber State from Colorado College in Colorado Springs.
Johnson becomes the school's fourth softball coach and will restart the program that was dropped in 1983.
