The United States is indeed losing power, as suggested through the observation of 13-year-old Truman Washburn (Readers' Forum, July 28). We might point out that a decline of the magnitude taking place is a complex issue that has taken many hands and powers to create. We might also point out the inaccuracy in comparing the lack of rights of women in earlier Britain with some perceived withholding of rights to homosexuals in modern America It isn't even close. No right of citizenship is denied homosexuals. And it is worthy of note that history doesn't treat homosexuality well.
