LOGAN — A man convicted of dragging a cow behind his truck while driving under the influence has been sentenced to serve 170 days in jail.

David A. Baker, 27, was sentenced Tuesday in 1st District Court on charges of theft, aggravated cruelty to animals, DUI and possession of a dangerous weapon. In addition to jail time, Baker was ordered to pay a $2,125 fine but allowed to be released from jail each day to go to work.

The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food said Cache County Sheriff's deputies investigating the deaths of several cows stopped Baker after seeing him dragging a cow behind his truck in January near Wellsville.
