I was a spectator at the Deseret News Salt Lake Marathon for the first time this year. What a great experience! I was totally amazed at the spirit and dedication of the runners.

We were at about the 20-mile mark when the first runner came by behind the police escort, and I felt such awe. As the runners continued to pass, I was touched by their determination and enthusiasm.

My son, Bryan, was running his first marathon. We were so proud of him. Somehow his name was not on the list of finishers, but he did finish along with his good friend Jason Duckworth after 4 hours, 28 minutes, 11 seconds.

This was an amazing new experience for us. Thanks to the Deseret News and everyone who made this memorable event possible.
