I have never been so disappointed in the coverage of a story than I have been about the Utah Supreme Court's ruling on waterway access. The Deseret News waited a week to report the story (July 24). Next, the story was completely one-sided and shallow with the reporter asking the public not to waste this opportunity.

This is a major issue to both the public and landowners. There are many issues that were not defined by the court that cast doubt on the free access that has been reported. This newspaper should have taken the time to explore the questions in the ruling and to talk to affected parties rather than just inviting the public to enjoy their new-found access to all Utah waters.

Overall this has been one of the most reckless stories I have ever seen, from the court that issued such a broad yet vague ruling to those people who have boisterously claimed victory to the news outlets.
