As "American Idol" auditions get under way in Salt Lake City, the Deseret News is following two hopefuls through the process. Loren Allred and Jeanette Greenlee are among the thousands who will be at the EnergySolutions Arena today.

They'll have about 10 seconds to impress the show's production staff with their vocal talents. They've got to make it through these early rounds in order to meet "Idol" judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul, who will be in town for callbacks in September.

On Wednesday, we'll let you know how Allred and Greenlee fared.
