A bicycle rider found unconscious on the side of the road in Summit County on Saturday has died from her injuries.

A passing motorist spotted the unconscious and bleeding woman along state Route 32 in Browns Canyon on Saturday around 3 p.m., the Summit County Sheriff's Office said.

The woman, 59, from Summit County, had severe injuries from a cycling accident, police said. It does not appear a car was involved.

"All the evidence we have is consistent with a fairly high velocity impact," said Summit County Sheriff Dave Edmunds.

Edmunds believes the woman, who was wearing a helmet, likely flew over the top of her handlebars and her head struck the pavement.

The cyclist, whose name has not been released, was flown to the hospital where she later died.
