A judge postponed a court hearing Monday for a man and two teenagers police say took part in a gang-related shooting that left a 7-year-old girl dead.
Lawyers for Frank Puga Benavidez, 20, Gabriel Alejandro Alvarez, 16, and Mae Goodman Johnson, 16, asked for more time to gather facts in the case. The scheduling conference was moved to Sept. 29.
Police say the trio was involved in a drive-by shooting in Glendale on July 6 that resulted in the death of Maria del Carmen Menchaca, 7, who was playing in her front yard.
Police have said they do not believe the child was the intended target instead, she was killed due to a long-standing battle between rival gangs.
Benavidez and Alvarez are charged with first-degree felony aggravated murder and obstruction of justice. Goodman was charged with first-degree murder and obstruction of justice.
