Newcastle will take midfielder Joey Barton back when he is released from prison next week following a six-month sentence for assault. Manager Kevin Keegan said Sunday that he would give the one-time England international another chance, despite a record that also includes a brutal training ground assault on a teammate and stubbing out a cigar in another player's eye.

"People have opinions, and you must respect those, but mine is to give him another chance and back him," Keegan said in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corp.
