SOCCER: Utah State soccer head coach Heather Cairns announced Friday that midfielder Andrea Seledee has signed to compete for the Aggies in the 2008 season. Seledee, who played for two seasons at Texas State, will have two years of eligibility with USU.
Seledee, a native of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., finished the 2007 season second on the team with seven points off two goals and three assists, which ranked first on the team. As a freshman at Texas State, she was third on the squad with 12 points on four goals and four assists to go along with two game-winning goals. Seledee scored two of her four goals on Nov. 3, 2006 to help the Bobcats defeat Southeastern Louisiana, 2-1, and advance Texas State in the Southland Conference Tournament.
"We are excited to add Andrea to our roster and her two years of collegiate experience will be very beneficial," said Cairns. "With the loss of three midfielders in Lacey Christenson, Abby Hunt and Shannon Ross, Andrea's experience at that position will definitely help fill a big gap."
With the signing of Seledee, Utah State's 2008 class is now at 11 players as Seledee joins freshmen, Brittany Boyack, Shantel Flanary, Alli, Maduell, Molli Merrill, Megan Rhoads, Chandra Salmon, Marissa Sanchez, Danielle Shorts, Summer Tillotson and Alexis Venable.
Utah State returns seven starters and 17 letter winners from last season's squad that posted a 10-11-0 record, tying the most-ever wins in the program's 12-year history. Utah State's 5-2-0 conference record ties the previous program-record mark of five league wins set in 2006. Utah State will begin preparations for its fall season on Tuesday, Aug. 5 and hold its first practice on Wednesday, August 6.
