HURRICANE — Two juveniles have been arrested for starting a fire that damaged a storage building.

After reviewing the surveillance video of the fire at 50 E. 100 North, investigators identified the juveniles and have referred them to juvenile court.

The two teens were lighting fireworks about 5:30 p.m. Friday near the storage building being used by Metcalf Mortuary to house electronics. Sparks from the fireworks ignited dry leaves next to the structure, according to a statement from the Hurricane Police Department.

Soon after, the the flames quickly spread to the building, covering it and a nearby telephone pole in flames.

The fire was originally reported as a brush fire, but on arrival firefighters discovered the burning building. No one was in the building or the adjacent structure that was also damaged.

On Friday, the temperatures hovered around 100 degrees in the area. Two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion, but no other injuries were reported, police said.
