A 22-year-old man was in critical condition Saturday after being shot in the abdomen with a rifle outside of Club Manhattan, 5 E. 400 South, in downtown Salt Lake City.
Tyler Lee, 22, was shot at 1:44 a.m. After a short chase, Daniel Clemons and Jeremy Crist were taken into custody in connection with the shooting and booked into jail for investigation of attempted murder, discharge of a firearm and obstruction of justice, said Salt Lake Police Lt. Scott White.
Soon after the shooting, the suspects fled the scene by car onto I-15. As they were beginning to enter the freeway, two off-duty officers working security at the nearby Crystal Inn saw the vehicle speeding and followed it, White said.
As the suspects traveled along I-15, Crist stopped the car to allow Clemons to flee on foot to a nearby gravel yard where he attempted to hide himself in machinery, White said. Officers discovered Clemons and arrested him on site.
The suspects were attempting to arrange to be picked up at the gravel yard by two women, ages 19 and 22. Both women were also taken into custody for investigation of obstruction of justice.
White said he did not know why Lee was shot.
