Over the past few months, many people have been drawing comparisons between the late Roman Empire and the United States today. Wrong civilization! I think we are much more like Victorian Britain 100 years ago. At the forefront of technology, the memories of wars making it the world's one and only superpower and the struggle of a group not given rights (women for Britain, homosexuals for the modern-day U.S.). We, as a people, are on the same path as Britain was in the early 20th century — starting ruinous wars (Iraq) and losing our respect as a global power.
