OREM — A boom box to the head knocked out one Utah County man last Friday and led to the arrest of another.

The suspected boom box swinger, a 29-year-old Provo man, is being held in Utah County Jail on investigation of aggravated assault, according to a 4th District Court affidavit of probable cause.

Provo police arrived at the corner of 800 N. University Ave. in Provo on July 18 following a report of a fight in progress. Officers at the scene found one man on the ground unconscious.

Police said the man who had been knocked unconscious originally hit the suspect in the face. The suspect then grabbed a boom box from the porch at the address and hit the man in the head, according to the affidavit.

After the blow to his head, police said the man fell to the ground, and the suspect jumped on top of him, striking him in the face repeatedly with the boom box. According to the affidavit, the blows were hard enough to cause pieces of the boom box to break off.

Police said the blows tore off pieces of the man's face, which was covered with blood when police arrived. They said the suspect was still hitting the man in the face after he was already unconscious, according to the affidavit.
