Kennecott has donated $10,000 to the Utah National Guard Charitable Trust at the Draper armory on behalf of its employees.
The charitable trust assists Utah military families with expenses, including medical, home and property emergencies that occur during the deployment of a service member.
"We wanted to make a contribution that would be used in the local community," said Kelly Sanders, chief operating officer of Kennecott Utah Copper, who thanked the soldiers for their service.
Sanders said many Kennecott employees or family members serve in the National Guard or other military branches.
"This is a great gesture," said Maj. Gen. Brian Tarbet, adjutant general of the Utah National Guard. "We assure you that this money will be wisely spent."
