A new scholarship program is aimed at helping immigrant and refugee women continue their education.
The idea is to support women as they pursue a variety of educational goals ranging from earning their GEDs to obtaining applied technology training or college degrees, said Agnes Chiao of the United Way of Salt Lake, which is partnering with Womens Philanthropic Network.
"We are looking at ways the scholarships are meeting the holistic needs of immigrant or refugee women," she said. "That includes child care or transportation needs. It's broader thinking than books and tuition."
The organizations are accepting applications from existing scholarship foundations until Aug. 5 to distribute a total $60,000 in scholarship funds, she said.
