In response to the letter from Cory Stahle (Readers' Forum, July 18), President Bush lifted the restriction on offshore drilling as a step to lower the price of oil and help this country stop being dependent on foreign oil. Mr. Stahle said it was an attack against our Democratic Congress. Bush is not shifting the blame to the Democratic Congress. Their failures are due to the lack of initiatives by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. Offshore drilling isn't a stunt; it is a big move in the right direction. The price of oil is high because the Arab nations think we have no other options. Bush made a move toward making America more independent of foreign oil. The next day, oil prices dropped by 10 percent. Oil prices will drop when speculators and the Arab nations realize that America is going to do something to become foreign-oil independent.
