Matthew R. Romney, Steven D. Burt and Sandra J. Weiland have joined Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll LLP's Salt Lake City office. Romney is an associate in the Business and Finance Department and a member of the Securities Group, Mergers and Acquisitions Group, Life Sciences Group and Private Equity Group. Prior to joining Ballard Spahr, he was an associate with a law firm in Boston. Burt concentrates his practice in commercial litigation. His education includes a degree from the University of Utah. Weiland focuses on litigation.

Simon Pearson has been named manager of the Rose Park branch of Mountain America Credit Union. Pearson previously was the assistant manager at the Holladay branch. He brings more than three years of financial industry experience to the position.

David N. Nilson and Margareta Hjorth-Vlasic have been named senior associates at MHTN Architects Inc. Nilson has 14 years of experience, including three years at MHTN. Hjorth-Vlasic has been at MHTN for seven years and has 20 years of professional experience.

Leon Nelson has been promoted to operations manager at Big-D Construction's Lindon office, and Larry Rice has joined the company as project manager for the company's Fastrack group. With 17 years of construction experience, Nelson has been with Big-D for more than a year as a senior project manager. His education includes a degree from Utah State University. Rice has been in the construction industry for 15 years as a laborer, assistant superintendent, superintendent, assistant project manager and project manager.

Gena Jones has been promoted to senior vice president and credit management manager at Zions Bank. She will be in the bank's Main Street office downtown. Jones is responsible for managing the credit management and recovery departments within the bank. She has nearly 19 years of experience with Zions Bank. She has been a commercial loan workout officer since 1992. Her education includes studying at the University of Utah.

Sam Stroman has been hired as art director at Riester. He began his career as a production designer and has four years of experience in project management, Flash, HTML, Photoshop and copywriting. His education includes a degree form Utah State University.

Stephen Brown has joined BNA Consulting as a project manager. Stephen has designed architectural lighting and control systems, low-voltage electrical distribution systems, emergency power generation, uninterruptible power supply systems and fire alarm systems.

Darren Adamson has been appointed president of the recently opened Argosy University in Salt Lake City, and Deborah A. Wheeler is the new vice president of academic affairs and program chair for grams at the American School of Professional Psychology for Argosy University. Adamson has served as vice president/director and director of academic affairs for another university. Most recently, Adamson served as president of The Art Institute of Salt Lake City. For nearly 20 years prior to beginning his career in higher education, Adamson worked as a mental health practitioner. His education includes degrees from Brigham Young University and Weber State University. Wheeler has worked for more than 20 years in the management of health care, criminal justice and educational programs. Wheeler was at Argosy University in San Diego before joining the Salt Lake City team. Wheeler's education includes a degree from Southern Utah University.

Tom Dischmann has been named as senior vice president of industrial properties of the Utah offices of CB Richard Ellis. Dischmann started with CB Richard Ellis in 1998, specializing in the acquisition and leasing of industrial properties. Prior to joining CB Richard Ellis, Dischmann was an assistant account executive for a Salt Lake City ad agency.

Paul S. Evans has joined Stoel Rives LLP. He is a former general counsel and vice president of business development of a medical device company; was vice president, general counsel and director of a company in Salt Lake City, and a patent attorney with a Salt Lake firm. Evans focuses his practice on counseling companies in the technology and life science industries on patent-related matters. His education includes degrees from the University of Utah.

Dan Baker has been named chief executive officer of America West Resources Inc. Baker was previously chief operating officer. Baker replaces Alexander Walker III, who will continue to serve as the chairman of the board and remain active in the company's day-to-day business activities as a senior advisor to the executive management team.
