OGDEN — A man has been arrested on child rape charges after police said he admitted to sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl.

According to a police affidavit filed with a series of criminal charges on Thursday, the 49-year-old man was under investigation after the girl said she had been molested and raped by her dad over the past 6 months. Police said the man even called detectives to offer up a confession.

"(The suspect) called into my office and stated that what he did was wrong, and that it is inexcusable," Ogden Police detective Colten Johansen wrote in a probable cause affidavit filed with the criminal charges. "(The suspect) was crying and stated that he wanted to turn himself in so he could go to jail."

Police obliged and arrested the man on Wednesday night. He was booked into the Weber County Jail where he remains on $160,000 bail. The Deseret News is not identifying the man because it would identify the alleged sex abuse victim.

On Thursday, Weber County prosecutors filed seven charges of first-degree felony rape of a child and another count of aggravated sex abuse of a child, also a first-degree felony, against the man.

He is scheduled to make his first appearance before a judge on Friday.
