Copper mining giant Kennecott donated $10,000 to the Utah National Guard Charitable Trust at the Draper Armory on behalf of its employees.
The charitable trust assists Utah military families with expenses including medical, home and property emergencies, and other unexpected emergencies that occur during the deployment of their service member.
"We wanted to make a contribution that would be used in the local community," said Kelly Sanders, chief operating officer f Kennecott Utah Copper, and thanked the soldiers for their service.
Sanders said because many employees or family members of employees serve in the Guard or other military branches, Kennecott is involved with military charities.
"This is a great gesture," said Maj. Gen. Brian Tarbet, adjutant general of the Utah National Guard. "We assure you, that this money will be wisely spent."
