It would seem that Kenneth Nessen (Readers' Forum, July 13) didn't live through the 1970s gas crisis when a 55-miles-per-hour speed limit did help to conserve gas and our gas dollars. However, a national speed limit wouldn't be needed if we all would just obey the posted speed limit. Just think — more miles per gallon, less money at the pump, fewer accidents and less stress.

Leave a little earlier, and enjoy your ride.
