A 14-year-old Midvale girl who reportedly ran away with an older man from Mississippi was found safe Tuesday after an Endangered Person Alert was issued.
Martha Barron is believed to have left her house about 1 a.m. with a 27-year-old man from Mississippi whom she met a few weeks earlier, said Midvale police Sgt. John Salazar.
"He talked her into going," he said.
It was believed the two were headed back to Mississippi when they were pulled over in Russell, Kansas, about 2 p.m. Mountain time, Salazar said. While the officer was checking their license plate, the alert issued by authorities in Utah showed up on NCIC and the two were taken into custody.
"The system works," Salazar said.
The girl was placed in protective custody while Inock Cruz was put in jail to be held for Utah authorities considering kidnapping charges, Salazar said. The girl was not harmed.
