FARMINGTON — An accused bank robber who stabbed himself before police could take him into custody has been released from the hospital.

Davis County Jail records show William Duffy, 51, of Idaho, was booked here late Monday after being released from the hospital. Duffy was booked on a federal arrest warrant after he was charged with bank robbery.

Bountiful police said Duffy robbed a Zions Bank branch on July 11. An employee followed Duffy out of the bank while calling 911. An officer happened to be a block away, court documents said.

The officer spotted Duffy's Saab and pulled him over near 400 North and 500 West. As officers approached the vehicle, however, police said Duffy began to repeatedly stab himself in the chest with a knife. Officers were forced to use a Taser to get him to stop.
