NEW YORK — Savannah, Ga., has made it on to Travel + Leisure's list of top 10 cities in the U.S. and Canada for the first time, according to the results of a magazine reader survey.

The list was topped by New York for the eighth consecutive year, followed by San Francisco, Chicago, Charleston, S.C., and Santa Fe, N.M. Next were three Canadian cities, Quebec City, Montreal and Vancouver, with Savannah ninth on the list and the British Columbia city of Victoria at No. 10.

Among world cities, Bangkok was named No. 1, followed by Buenos Aires; Cape Town, South Africa; Sydney, Australia; Florence, Italy; Cuzco, Peru; Rome; New York; Istanbul, Turkey, and San Francisco.

Top hotel on the U.S. and Canada list was Triple Creek Ranch in Darby, Mont. The One & Only Ocean Club in the Bahamas took top spot for Caribbean lodgings.

On the world's best islands list, the Galapagos was No. 1, while Vieques, Puerto Rico, was named best island in the Caribbean. Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Island topped the island list for the U.S. and Canada.

Virgin America won the prize for best domestic airline. Crystal Cruises took the title of world's best large-ship cruise line, while Silversea Cruises was named the No. 1 small-ship cruise line. Hertz ranked No. 1 among rental car agencies, and Singapore Airlines was named top international airline.

The 13th annual World's Best Awards were based on a survey made available to Travel + Leisure subscribers, who were asked to rate destinations, properties, and travel companies they had recent experiences with. More than 11,000 readers participated.
