Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation, presented by American Express and Sysco, will feature food from more than 40 of Utah's top chefs at Solitude Mountain Resort on Aug. 3, noon-4 p.m.
The chefs will serve signature cuisine, with live music and the mountains providing a backdrop. This ninth annual fundraiser gives 100 percent of ticket sales to anti-hunger groups, such as Utahns Against Hunger, the Utah Food Bank and Ogden's Community Action Program. Last year, the event raised more than $82,000.

The former My Girlfriend's Kitchen meal assembly store in Layton has been changed to The Dinner A'Fare, at 918 Heritage Park Blvd. Suite 200. On Saturday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., customers can sample some of the entrees and desserts. Those who buy one entree, dessert or side dish will receive another one free. The Davis County Fair is seeking contestants for its annual Dutch Oven Cook-off at the county Fair Park Aug. 9. Cooks will compete in three categories: desserts, breads and entrees. Registration fee is $15; deadline is Aug. 1 (546-1182).
A Midsummer Night's Feast takes place July 29, 7:30 p.m., in Moab's Youth Garden, 530 South 400 East, Moab. Presented by chef Susan Kittler, the menu uses locally grown seasonal foods, such as chilled tomato-tarragon soup, sweet corn risotto, grilled succotash, and apricot-cherry pie. Z'Tejas Southwestern Grill at The Gateway is seeking Red-Hot Dessert Contest recipes that contains some form of chile pepper. The recipe will be featured on the restaurant's special Chile Fest menu in September, a $100 gift card and a gift from Kimball Distributing. Submission deadline is July 28. The Mayan Adventure has added new summer dinner items, including Mexican Machaca, made with round steak that's shredded and stewed in house-made salsa, and Chicken Tinga, which is chicken simmered in spices and chiles. Ranchera Mac & Cheese is a vegetarian option, prepared with bow-tie pasta, ranchera cream sauce, sauteed seasoned tomatoes, cotija cheese and tortilla crumbs.
Log Haven is hosting Dog Days of Summer through September, to encourage customers to enjoy a hike in the coolness of Millcreek Canyon with their dogs. From Monday-Thursday, diners can stop in for dinner their with well-behaved canine companions in the restaurant's outdoor amphitheater. The full seasonal menu is available, and fresh bowls of water and doggie treats will be provided for the dogs (272-8255).
