It's going to be a building supply salesman taking on a Utah State Aggie in the final match of the Utah Men's State Amateur golf tournament Sunday at Soldier Hollow State Park golf course.
Dan Horner, a former Rutgers University golfer, moves on after knocking off the tough Carl Jensen 1-up in Saturday morning's quarterfinal and then outlasting St. George's Christian Jensen in 19 holes in the semifinals. After missing a 3-foot putt to win his semifinal match on the 18th hole, Horner then rolled in a delicate 4-footer for birdie on the first extra hole of his afternoon match to advance.
He'll face Birch Creek's Devin Daniels, a Utah State senior who first got past BYU's Robbie Fillmore 3 and 2 in the quarterfinals before edging 1998 champion Darrin Overson 1-up in his semifinal match. The match-winner for Daniels was a 20-foot birdie putt from off the fringe on No. 18 that likely prevented extra holes.
Earlier in the day, Overson sent Casey Fowles home 2 and 1, and Christian Jensen beat Steve Poulson 4 and 3.
