More than 6,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers lost service shortly after 5 p.m. Friday after a car crashed into a utility pole and brought lines down at 1700 South and 2100 East.

Company spokeswoman Margaret Oler said an emergency re-route procedure restored power to all but about 700 customers by 6:30 p.m. and complete restoration was expected to be complete late Friday night. The outage affected customers in the area east of 1300 East between 2100 South and Sunnyside Ave.

Salt Lake Police Lt. Dave Hoffman said the driver of the car that hit the pole, a 30-year-old male, suffered only minor injuries in the incident.
