Loser: We know state lawmakers are tired of reading stories about how they accept gifts and avoid having their names reported because of loopholes in the law. But they ought to consider how tired their constituents are of it, as well. We can think of no good reason for a public servant to get goodies from people who want something in return. Reports such as the one this newspaper published yesterday ought to prompt pressure for laws to do away with the practice.

Winner: Outdoor Magazine has listed Ogden as the third best reinvented city in the United States. The ranking comes as confirmation that the city's efforts to make itself into an outdoor and recreation capital are paying off.
