A three-alarm fire damaged a downtown Salt Lake warehouse and closed a freeway off-ramp for more than an hour this afternoon.

Firefighters were called to 455 W. 600 South around 3:15 p.m. and were leaving the scene about an hour later, said Salt Lake Fire Chief Denny McKone.

The 600 South off-ramp was reopened shortly after 4:30 p.m.

McKone said some workers inside the warehouse had been welding just prior to the blaze, which was contained to the warehouse. Damage estimates were not immediately available.

A third alarm was called because of concerns about heat-related injuries to firefighters, McKone said. No injuries were reported Thursday afternoon.

During the fire, officials were also monitoring a power substation immediately to the east of the warehouse.
