MAPLETON — Neighbors suspect children might be responsible for a blaze that burned down a shed Tuesday evening.

Around 5:30 p.m., 75-year-old Mapleton resident Paul McHargue said a neighbor told him smoke was rising from his shed near 1400 North and 1600 West. By the time he looked out back, all he saw was "a solid wall of fire" where the shed used to be.

Mapleton's volunteer fire department responded and managed to put the fire out by 7:30 p.m., said Mapleton Fire Chief Roger Michaels. Neighbors suspect children might be responsible for the blaze because children are known to play in that area frequently, he said, but the actual cause is still unknown.

McHargue estimates he lost at least $7,750 worth of equipment and lumber in the fire.
