Local children's authors, including New York Times bestsellers Shannon Hale and Brandon Mull, are hosting a Writing for Charity event at the Salt Lake City Main Library on July 19, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Other participating authors include Mettie Ivie Harrison, Ann Cannon, Kristyn Crow, Becky Hickox, Kimberley Heuston, Anne Bowen, Aprilynne Pike, Ann Dee Ellis, Mike Knudson and Wendy Toliver.
The writers will talk about their writing process, how to write for a young audience, share storytelling tips and information on the publishing business. In addition, participants can have their picture book text or first page of a novel reviewed by professionals.
Cost is $45; tickets are available at the door on a first-come basis, but advance registration is suggested. To register send a check made out to LDS Philanthropies to 1176 E. 2620 North, Provo, UT 84604-4132.
All proceeds will go to the Wheel Chair Project, which donates wheelchairs to people in Third World countries.
